3. How often (Frequency): always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, never Adverbs of frequency usually go before the main verb, but after the "to be" verb (am/is/are).

  • I often walk to work. (Before main verb)
  • She is always late. (After "to be")

Adverbs of Place (Where?)

Adverbs of place tell us where an action happens. They are usually placed after the main verb or the object. They do not modify adjectives or other adverbs.

Common adverbs of place include: here, there, everywhere, outside, inside, nearby, away.

  • The children are playing outside.
  • I looked everywhere for my keys.

Order of Adverbs (Manner, Place, Time)

If you need to use multiple adverbs in one sentence, the standard order in English is Manner ➔ Place ➔ Time (MPT).

  • She sang beautifully (manner) in the hall (place) last night (time).
